Hangry on a rooftop...with a ring box
Sophia could feel the hangry boiling up inside of her and was thisclose to lashing out at Gerard. On his birthday. His 30th birthday.
Let’s back up and start at the beginning before we get to Hungry Sophia rearing her ugly head…again. Dawn broke on Friday, August 19, 2016 like any other NYC summer day. Sophia was giddy because it was Gerard’s birthday and she had a huge surprise in store for him in a little more than 24 hours. Though Gerard believed her to be working from home this Friday, like she did most others, she had actually taken the day off and had a variety of errands planned in preparation for the BIG SURPRISE. She made dinner reservations at a Spanish restaurant in NoLita because she knew that tonight would be the only night this weekend where it would just be the two of them. Per the usual, Sophia was running late and came back to their shared apartment rushing to get ready in time. She was not in the best of moods because she was starving…STARVING. She had not eaten all day and was really looking forward to scarfing food down as soon as humanly possible. Gerard had already made the request that they both get dressed up to celebrate his 30th and Sophia happily complied. As she was putting the finishing touches on her hair, Gerard suggested they go up to their rooftop to have Champagne. He said he wanted to do this earlier, but that was before Sophia was late and hangry. She was not into it, and then she remembered that love is sometimes putting the other person before your hunger. They went up to the roof and Gerard started talking about the Freedom Tower as they stared at it. Something, something...when I took Jonathan to the Freedom Tower…something, something…look into your future…something, something…what I see when I look at my future. At this point, Sophia was confused. And then she wasn’t. Out of his pocket, Gerard pulls out a ring box and gets down on one knee. Suddenly it all made sense. He was PROPOSING. To Her. She yelled and hit him a few times and said YES (obviously)!!! They were engaged!
As luck would have it, many of Gerard’s friends and family were in town for the BIG SURPRISE birthday party Sophia had planned for him the following day. His birthday party morphed into an engagement party of sorts.
And they lived wedding planning ever after!
